2015 Ekurhuleni Melting Pot National Choral Festival

2015 Ekurhuleni Melting Pot National Choral Festival

26.10.2015  The third annual Ekurhuleni Melting Pot National Choral Festival, will be held from 31 October to 1 November at Carnival City.

The competition, a yearly tribute to the late O.R. Tambo, was launched at the Germiston Civic Centre on September 26, and promises to be a stellar festival of choral bliss.

October is O.R. Tambo Month in the metro, and as an art and culturally astute freedom fighter, composer and former school choir conductor, the Ekurhuleni metro believes that the Melting Pot National Choral Festival is a fitting tribute to Mr Tambo.

Choirs from across SA will battle it out for the R500 000 grand prize and one of the most sought after choral titles in the country.

“Choral music is food for the soul because it plays an important role in developing a sound fibre of the community,” said Executive Mayor, Mondli Gungubele at the launch. “The discipline required to execute a collective mandate is a pivotal skill to learn and extends beyond the choral space, but also to life and the work place.”

The following choirs have qualified:
His Majesty Choir (Swaziland)
Zwelitsha Adult Choir
Gauteng Choristers
SA Singers
Voice Of The Nation
African Chorus
Heavenly Voices
Bagale (Lesotho)
Serumula
Transnet Port Terminal Choir (photo)

Guest artists at the event will be Zakes Bantwini, Sibongile Khumalo, Black Coffee, Solly Mahlangu, Sally Silver, Njabulo Madlala and Nathi.

Tickets from R 150 are available at COmputicket.
