05.07.2013 Owen Metsileng (baritone), Thsepo Moagi (tenor) and Kelebogile Boikanyo (soprano), all South African singers, have been chosen as finalists for the 32nd Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition that is currently taking place in Amsterdam. The finals will take place on Sunday 6 July at 19h30 in the form of a gala concert with Het Gelders Orkest and conductor Ed Spanjaard taking the finalists through their paces.

Twenty-nine singer agents and fourty-two representatives of opera and concert houses, conductors, directors and other professionals will attend the finals to scout for talent to possibly contract in future.

The first prize in the competition is € 7000, the second prize € 3500 and the third prize € 2500. There is also an audience prize of € 2000 and a prize of € 1500 awarded by an International Media-Jury. Engagements to opera houses, if a role is available and appropriate quality is given, have been donated by opera houses, including Cape Town Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin and Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz München.

Past participants and prizewinners include Angelika Kirchschlager, Angela Gheorghiu, Ildikó Raimondi, Elisabete Matos, Elina Garanča and the South African sopranos Pretty Yende, Hlengiwe Mkhwanazi and Sally du Randt.
