The Music Department at the University of Pretoria have teamed up with the Joburg Promusica Theatre in Roodepoort to offer international visitors to South Africa the opportunity to explore their skills on the marimba, mbira or djembe drum in an African music ensemble.

The workshops on African music commenced on Monday and runs until the 18th June. It is aimed at international visitors, but locals are welcome to attend. No prior musical training or skill is necessary. The workshops are presented by Mr Michael Sibanda, a well-known marimba and djembe band leader in South Africa, and Mr Richard Muranda, an expert on the mbira (finger piano).

Venue: Joburg Promusica Theatre, 100 Christiaan de Wet St, Florida Park.

Times: There are three separate sessions per day; participants can choose to attend any one of these.

Session 1: 08:30 - 10:30
Session 2: 11:30 - 13:30
Session 3: 14:30 - 16:30

Only 35 participants can be accommodated per session. Extra dates and sessions may be added, depending on demand. The fee is R200 per person per session.
