Bumper People’s Theatre season planned for 2014

Hot off the back of a very successful 2013, the people behind the flourishing and much-loved Peoples Theatre have an exciting year planned for 2014.

From classic Disney favourites to tales from the master of fables, there is something to keep children both young and old amused and entertained. The new year kicks off with Disney's Alice in Wonderland for the March and April school holidays, and another Disney classic, Pinocchio, mid-year. The September and October season sees Hans Christian Andersen's tales brought to life, followed closely by Disney's Beauty and the Beast for the year-end finale.

“There are three brand new exciting Disney's productions with new musical arrangements, none of which have been seen at the Peoples Theatre, and a new story book theatre will bring to life the magical master of fairy tales, Hans Christian Andersen,” says Keith Smith and Jill Girard, who are behind every production at the Peoples Theatre.

From 3 March to 20 April 2014, join Alice’s madcap adventures in Wonderland as she chases the White Rabbit, races the Dodo Bird, gets tied up with the Tweedies, raps with a bubble-blowing Caterpillar, and beats the Queen of Hearts at her own game! Meet the Cheshire Cat and dozens of other wonderfully wacky characters. Alice in Wonderland is a fast-paced stage adaption full of interactions with brand new musical arrangements of such classic Disney’s songs as “I’m Late”, “The Un-birthday Song” and “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah”.

Pinocchio, one of the finest classics of all time, will be onstage from 19 May to 10 August 2014 The story is filled with a mixture of magic, suspense, fun and excitement. Pinocchio, the little wooden puppet who after a series of adventures is magically brought to life by the Blue Fairy, must show that he is brave, honest and unselfish before he can become a real boy. Thumbelina, The Princess and the Pea, The Snow Queen, The Tinder box, The Ugly Duckling – all the Hans Christian Andersen favourites will be on the Peoples Theatre stage from 1 September to 5 October. The audience will be involved in every aspect of this “theatre in education production”. Should you need a little magic all you have to do is open a book and say “once upon a time...”

The year ends off with a bang with Beauty and the Beast, the story of a beautiful girl's father who picks a rose from the Beast's garden and gets caught. He promises to send his daughter to the Beast, and in the end the odd couple falls in love. This beloved fairy tale about very different people finding strength in one another and learning how to love is filled with spectacular costumes and sets. Beauty and the Beast offers children a great introduction to musical theatre and is a must-see for the end of the year. It runs from 3 November to 24 December.
