Albert Horne is the Chorus Master and Music Assistant for Cape Town Opera in South Africa.
A graduate from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, he obtained his Masters Degree in Operatic Studies in 2007, studying conducting with Sian Edwards.
As conductor, he recently conducted Kurt Weill’s Lost in the Stars, Verdi’s La traviata and Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi & Suor Angelica in Cape Town, Mandela Trilogy in Durban and Johannesburg, Jerome Kern’s Show Boat with the Orchestre Pasdeloup at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris as well as with the Malmö Opera Orchestra in Sweden, and Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess with the Israel Symphony Orchestra at the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Centre.
He has also conducted Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea with Camerata Tinta Barocca in Cape Town, Porgy & Bess with the Nairobi Symphony Orchestra in Kenya, and Show Boat with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra in Nürnberg and with the Den Norske Opera Orchestra in Oslo.
Albert has appeared as conductor, musical director, accompanist, vocal coach and pianist for various opera companies and singers, both in South Africa and in Europe.
For Cape Town Opera, he has prepared the Opera Chorus for numerous productions, including La Bohème, Carmen, Aida, Madama Butterfly, Fidelio, La Bohème, La traviata, Lost in the Stars, Porgy & Bess, Dead Man Walking, Lucia di Lammermoor, Der Rosenkavalier, African Songbook, Poet & Prophetess, Die Zauberflöte, Rigoletto, as well as for their 10th Anniversary Gala Concert and the Johan Botha & Amanda Echalaz Gala Concert.
Highlights in 2012 include conducting a two month tour of Porgy & Bess and Mandela Trilogy through the United Kingdom with the Orchestra of the Welsh National Opera, conducting a gala concert with Opera Victoria at the Hamer Hall in Melbourne, and being Chorus Master for three concerts with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and Sir Simon Rattle at the Philharmonie in Berlin.
